Hiren boot provides many useful tools and utlities. It provides user to easily boot, recover, partition, reset windows password and many more with a bootable CD or USB. Since creating a bootable CD/DVD is pretty straight forward so i am not going to explain that here. Instead most people have problem in making a bootable USB. So, in order to simplify the process, i am going to explain USB creation process. Keep reading. 🙂
Please note that bootable USB drives can only be booted via computers who supports boot via USB option in BIOS.
Tools Required:
Hiren boot USB making is a two step process.
In order to make a USB drive bootable, following requirements must fulfill.
– A USB must have a primary partition
– The primary partition have to be “active”
Open “Computer Management” by right clicking Computer->Manage.
Click on “Disk Management” from Storage in left pane.
Depending upon your disk drives, see the “Removable Disk x” status, which has to be primary partition and active. If
your USB drive is already active, skip to section II. Otherwise keep reading.
Extract and then Open “USB format” tool and choose your usb from Device list.
[Windows 7 and greater users right click and choose “Run as Administrator”]
Check “Quick format” and click Start. It will erase all data and format the drive.
After that, the drive will be shown as “Active” in “Computer Management, as shown in below screen.
Extract grub4dos and run “grubinst_gui.exe”. Choose Disk according to your USB drive. In my case, i have 16 GB kingston. It can be seen from screen that its 15311M is my USB.
Now from “Part List”, click refresh and then select “Whole Disk (MBR)” and finally click “Install”.
Open Hirenboot ISO file with 7zip or ultraISO which ever your favorite and then extract all files in a folder.
The contents of folder will look like
Copy all the extracted files and folders in the root of USB drive. i.e. x:
Copy these files from HBCD folder:
Paste these files in root of USB
The USB drive will look like
USB boot or USB install Win will be useful when you forget the password Windows needs to break the password to log in to the computer, reinstall Win, boot into the system to fix the error, restore Win. The USB is compact, very convenient to carry around. If you are a regular computer user, make sure you create a bootable USB to use when you need it.
The creation of USB boot is not too difficult, currently there are many ways to create USB boot with dozens of software support, however, Hiren's BootCD is a tool that is quite old and loved by technology people. In order to ensure normal USB operation and boot, you need to convert the USB format you are using to the FAT32 format. Run the USBFormat download tool above, extract it and run usb_format.exe file:

Follow this guide to create a USB ghost, install Windows
Unzip 'Hirens.BootCD.15.2.zip' >into the unzipped folder > select 'Hirens.BootCD.15.2.iso' and extract it and copy all the files in it to USB.

Copy two 'grldr' and 'menu.lst' files and paste them into Hirenboot's USB just created. So where are those 'grldr' and 'menu.lst' files taken? You can get from:

After creating the boot USB, you plug the USB into the computer, restart the computer and enter the BIOS. Depending on the model and operating system, the way to enter the BIOS will vary, usually using keys like F12 or Delete. Once you have entered the BIOS, you select the boot mode from USB, here, we can proceed to reinstall Windows and perform other tasks as needed.

Above is the guide to create USB boot very detailed with Hiren's bootCD. With the USB boot just created, you can use to ghost Win, install Windows, extract ghost version or fix Windows errors when needed.
