Vampire Slayer has gone through a tremendous number of overhauls within the last 2 betas. In the first Vampire Slayer, the game was plagued with imbalances and ghosts opening the doors and using flashlights. Vampire Slayer 2.0 resolved the above-mentioned issues and more, and left us with a very stable vampire-killing modification. In Vampire Slayer's newest incarnation, I have found something that anyone can sink their teeth into (Excuse the cliche'd pun..).

Molly and Father D. Vs. The masters of the night
The basic premise of Vampire Slayer 3.0 remains the same as the previous 2 versions; vampires must kill the Slayers, and the Slayers must hunt the vampires. The Vampire Slayers have an assortment of Vampire killing technology, from crosses and shotguns to a stake-firing crossbow. When you join a match of Vampire Slayer, you are given a choice between both teams, and a series of different characters. For the Slayers, you can play as Molly or Father D., Molly being more 'long range' oriented, and Father D being more brute force-oriented (2 types of shotguns). All the Slayer weapons are well-balanced in respect to the vampires' abilities, so no complaints here. Every weapon also seems to have gone through a model and animation upgrade. The new claw model for the vampires is great! As a vampire, you have a choice between 3 characters; Lois, Edgar and Nina. Each have their own special ability, as well as the ability to heal by feeding on bodies, super jumping and claw attacks. Running into one of these vicious vampires in the dark is a pretty thrilling moment, which brings me to my next topic.

Green ooze, a broken floor and a coffin all add up to something sinister..

Atmosphere
Vampire Slayer 3.0 really draws you in to the position of a Slayer or a vampire. As a Slayer, you have your flashlight to lead you through the dark and overly scary maps. Vampire Slayer 3 comes with a huge number of maps, most of which are professional quality. There are a few that seem out of place, but they are an exception to the generally terrifying multiplayer battlegrounds. The mansion level is especially chilling. Vampire Slayer 3 also comes with bot support, and from what I've seen they aren't bad. Playing online really is great, especially if you are playing with people who play the vampires with the single intent to scare the bojangles out of you. The sad truth is that there really aren't many places to play online, with only one server online during my review period. Playing on a LAN is fiercely competitive for such a seemingly simple premise and is certainly worth the download.

Stairs I would have rather avoided..

Vampire Slayer 3 is a great evolutionary leap for the Vampire Slayer mod, and the designers pay careful attention to their fans to find what works, what doesn't and what people really want in the mod. Due to this huge amount of player feedback, you can rest assured Vampire Slayer will never be boring.
The Bottom Line
Vampires, stake guns, a sawed-off shotgun.. There's so much that makes Vampire Slayer so good, you really have to check it out yourself! It'll slay ya!
How to play
Step 1: Update Half-Life. Grab the lastest patch for Half-Life from our files page if you haven't already. You'll need to do this if you want to play online anyway, so quit playing single player and get with the program!
Step 2: Set up Vampire Slayer. Download and install Vampire Slayer Chapter III (49.5mb).
Step 3: Find a server. Snag Gamespy Arcade and get into a game! It's that easy.
